Overcoming Bedrock, Rip Rap, and Water: ARMA Fence at Caribou Falls
Product Used: ARMA Fence
Location: Caribou Falls, Ontario.
The Challenge

The Caribou Falls project required securing a 300-foot section of critical infrastructure in one of Northwestern Ontario’s more demanding environments. Located adjacent to a hydroelectric generating station, the site introduced a combination of terrain, safety, and accessibility challenges that ruled out conventional fencing approaches.
This project presented a unique combination of environmental and structural challenges:
- A significant portion of the installation had to be completed on existing concrete walls and exposed bedrock, requiring precise anchoring and drilling methods to ensure long-term stability.
- Beyond that, sections of the fence line ran across a berm capped with rip rap, creating an uneven and shifting surface that complicated post placement and alignment.
- Adding to the complexity, the installation took place near fast-moving water from the station’s tail race, where safety, timing, and execution were critical.
- The remote location further limited equipment access and required careful logistical planning to transport materials and complete the installation efficiently.
- Finally, the fence system needed to follow the natural contours of the terrain—not only for visual consistency, but to eliminate potential security gaps across elevation changes and irregular ground conditions.
In many areas, posts could not penetrate the ground more than six inches, making traditional fencing installation methods impractical.
Additionally, the fencing system needed to follow the natural grade of the landscape, which included varying slopes and elevation changes.
Conventional chain link fencing would have required:
- Deep post driving
- Extensive site preparation
- Concrete foundations
- Terrain modification
These methods would have increased cost, extended installation time, and potentially disrupted the surrounding environment.
The Solution: ARMA Fence System
ARMA Gate team approached the project with a focus on adaptability, durability, and precision installation.
To address the varying surfaces, our team implemented specialized anchoring techniques designed for both concrete and bedrock applications. This ensured each post achieved maximum holding strength, regardless of the underlying material. In areas with rip rap, the installation strategy was adjusted to stabilize post placement and maintain structural integrity across uneven ground.
Given the proximity to fast-moving water, strict safety protocols were followed throughout the installation process. Our team coordinated work sequences to minimize exposure risk while maintaining project timelines, demonstrating the ability to operate effectively in high-risk environments.
To maintain continuous security, the fence system was carefully installed to track the natural grade of the landscape, adapting to elevation changes without compromising strength or alignment. This level of precision ensured a consistent barrier across the entire 300-foot span.
Despite the site’s remote location, the ARMA Gate team coordinated material delivery, crew access, and installation sequencing to complete the project efficiently, without delays or compromises in quality.
The Result
The completed installation delivers a robust and reliable perimeter security solution tailored to the site’s unique challenges.

By successfully integrating with concrete, bedrock, and rip rap surfaces, the ARMA Fence system provides long-term structural performance in an environment where failure is not an option. The fence follows the terrain seamlessly, eliminating gaps and reinforcing the overall security of the site.
The client now benefits from a low-maintenance, high-durability fencing system designed to withstand harsh weather conditions and demanding industrial use. Equally important, the installation was completed safely and efficiently, even in close proximity to hazardous water flow and within a remote setting.
Key Takeaway
The Caribou Falls project highlights ARMA Fence’s ability to deliver in complex, real-world conditions. Through a combination of technical expertise, field adaptability, and a commitment to quality workmanship, ARMA Gate provides solutions that perform where standard systems fall short.
In environments where terrain, safety, and reliability intersect, ARMA Gate delivers confidence on every install.
